First time parents Joy and husband Fabio are both aged 40, and have been trying for a baby for five years. They have endured many rounds of fertility treatment, and a miscarriage, and are delighted that finally their dreams of parenthood are coming true.

Joy’s pregnancy has been a joy, and she will miss her bump. Complications arising in the final six weeks, including fluctuations in her blood pressure compounded by her pregnancy-related diabetes, have meant that she has needed regular hospital check-ups. For safety’s sake her labour will be induced a little early.

In the end, Joy was induced but her cervix wasn’t responding, and after days of very slow progress she opted for an elective Caesarean section.

Baby Ellie was born on 8 October, 2009 much to Joy and Fabio’s great joy.
